The GIMP is a multiplatform photo manipulation tool. GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. The GIMP is suitable for a variety of image manipulation tasks, including photo retouching, image composition, and image construction.

Basics
This section of the tutorials is for people just starting out with digital editing.
- Why you should not save your files as JPG as you work on them
- Sometimes the photo looks a little 'flat' learn how to improve your photos simply and easily.
- We don't always take the photo we want. Crop your photo so that it concentrates peoples attention to where you want it
- The various selection tools and how to use them
- All digital photos need sharpening, using the USM is a great way to do that
- Sometimes things get in the way of a great photo, like powerlines, learn how to get rid of them
- Often layers and masks will be used to enhance a photo, learn what they are and what they do

Beyond Basics
- Orton Imagery is a technique developed by Michael Orton in the slides days which achieved magic effects by putting on the same frames two slides, one sharp and the other out of focus. We have here the digital adaptation.
- Humans are very good at picking a horizon that is not level. However when we are taking photographs we don't always get it right. This tutorial is a simple method of correcting that.
- Various man made and natural factors contribute to a photo having "haze", this tutorial is one method of correcting that.
- Add a darkened vignette to the outside to enhance a central subject and draw the viewers eyes to the center more.
Color Cut-Out (Selective Colour)
- Learn how to use layers and masks to colour selective parts of your image
- Crop your image in a specific ratio.

This section describes what you can do with the various scripts and Plug-ins available for GIMP. You may find tutorials moved down to this section if someone creates a script that does the effect.

- mathmap is a plugin for Gimp, which will allow you, among other things, to create the Escher and Droste effect, famous for its illusion, making an impossible World look real, as the mind has difficulty in discovering the incoherences of the picture.
- Reduce global contrast in images while increasing local contrast and shadow/highlight detail.
- Use two different colours on a black and white image, one for the highlights one for the shadows.
- A useful blurring plug-in that use a map to blur an image.
- Simulate film grain with this script.
- Simulate a soft focus effect
